Slide the carrier (containing the photograph) backwards and forwards until the correct focus is obtained, when figures and objects will be seen solid, in relief. Hold the Instrument, so that a STRONG light falls on the FACE of the Photograph. | |||||||

| 注記 | 裏書 : Dr Louis Livingstone Seaman, who was with the Japanese armies in Manchuria, said in his address to the National Geographic Society at Washington, December 9, 1904: “It is the rule of the Japanese surgeons at the front to do little or no operating, except in cases of extreme emergency or Where hemorrhage threatens .death. All cases are treated by the application of the first aid dressing and the sent to the rear as quickly as possible，thence by hospital boat or transport to the base hospital in Japan." The reserve hospital at Hiroshima gives excellent evi- dence of the efficiency of the medical department of the army. In this hospital up to August 1,1904, 9,682 cases had been received, of whom 6,636 were wounded. Up to that time out of the entire number only 34 –thirty-four –had died. The loss from preventable diseases during the first six months of the war was a fraction of one per cent. Dr.Seaman contrasts this with the fearful losses of the British From preventable diseases in South Africa, and with our Own losses in the Spanish-American war where the mor- Tality from bullets and wounds was 268, and from diseases 3,862-14 to 1.
